LAST BLOG!

Yesterday, I had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch, my last lunch in a reusable lunch container for a while. I brought a salad to work and that instead of getting fast food, for the last time. I can't wait to have mcdonalds, like I can't even explain how long it's been! It's been good being healthy, and it's been really fun reducing my eco footprint! Even though it's been great to follow the footsteps of the no impact man, I could never have done everything he did. Not eating fast food was definately very hard to for me to do!

8th blog!

2 MORE DAYS LEFT! I've been super good, I got my dad to get me salad last night from the market and we had that for lunch and it was very yummy! For dinner we went to the butcher and got some steak, and had a big family eco-friendly meal which I was happy about! I'm very glad I've done this summative, as hard as it has been I've surprisingly only cheated once, and it wasn't even my fault. I'm sooo excited to have a freezie, and have a McDonalds's hamburger though, I'm not going to lie!

7th blog!

I can't believe this whole summative is almost done! There's only 3 more blogs to go! Today I was so tempted to go to Dairy Queen's because it's been so hot lately, but I decided to go home and make a smoothie instead which I think turned out a lot better! As tempting as it if to not eat fast food, I think it's been a really good experience. It's helped my diet too! I've lost 5 pounds, which isn't THAT big of a deal, but I'm definitely happy! Whether it has to do with the fact that I've been eating better, or the fact that I've been going to the gym more lately I'm definitely liking that my prom dress fit's a little more snug on my body and that I don't have to worry about not being able to breath!

6th blog!

Now that I'm back from the States, I have no reasons to cheat again. I was pretty disappointed last weekend when I had to go subway, and even though the paper was a "partially" recycled I felt pretty bad. The whole point of this was to go along with this decision we had made of being eco friendly, and it just sucks that it got ruined by a sandwich... Anyways, I have been eating great since then, my dad picked up some fresh bread and lunch meat today so I had a good sandwich, and I haven't worked in a bit so I haven't really had any temptations to eat from a fast food place!

5th blog!

greener subway!

greener store!

4th Blog!

This weekend is the May 24 long weekend, and I am taking a family trip to Syracuse. I have yet to cheat on this whole summative, but I really think I'm going to this weekend. My family is notorious for eating at subway every lunch time because it's the only healthy food that you can get when on the road that's also very fast to eat. I'm definitely going to try to convince my parents to stop at restaurants and grocery stores to make sandwiches and stuff but I seriously doubt this is going to go well with my parents. They've been supportive this whole time, but when it comes to family trips they like getting food quick and fast so we can go on to other things like shopping. So it's definitely going to be interesting to see what happens.

3rd Blog!

Today went very smoothly, I haven't worked in a couple of days which has been nice because I've been able to focus on school and I actually went ahead and got a membership at the Atheletic Club where I'm going to start taking yoga classes, another step towards me becoming healthy! I bought a really cute purple Lulu Lemon reusable water bottles that's actually been made from 100% recycable products. I also bought a Mat and Nat wallet that's made of 100% recycled beer bottles. I've been doing really good on my trash free lunches, and have yet to cheat (and I don't intend on it).

2nd blog post!

Today I worked, so I definately had the possibility to cheat because I was starving after school. I had another fresh sandwitch today for lunch, which was really good and tasted sooo healthy. I had forgotten to pack myself a dinner for after school because I got called into work. I walked through the food court and all I wanted was sandwitch from subway, or a burger from A&W but I resisted and went to work early and got the kitchen to make me a pesto fettucini that was 10 times better than any burger or sandwitch could of been. I knew from the start it was going to be hard to go to work and resist getting food or a starbucks on my way to work but it's for a good cause, right?!

1st blog post!

Today was the first day of my no impact summative. This is just the beggining of it, so it wasn't diffucult at all to stick to it. For lunch I brought a fresh sandwitch from home in a reusable container. My bread was fresh, pickuped from the bakery that morning, and my lunch meat was picked up from the butcher the day before. I don't think the fresh food will happen everyday, but I'm definately going to try to use the least amount of trash I can. The fresh food was definately very yummy and tasted a lot better than bread and meat we would pick up at a convenience store like Wal-Mart or something. Hopefully it continues being this easy, and I don't have any temptations to cheat.

Statement of Intent!

For the next three weeks, I will be following in the footsteps of "No Impact Man" Colin Beaven for my Environmental Science class summative. Unlike Colin I will only be giving up one thing to change my impact on the environment, but I hoping that trying to reduce my carbon footstep will be good for the environment in the long run. I've decided that for the next three weeks I will be having trash-free meals with my friends and family. I've decided to do this because I've realized that I go out to eat a lot, I dispose a lot of plastic bags and saran wrap from bringing lunches to school, and that I drink a lot of water from plastic water bottles. All of that trash accumulates, and most of it cannot be recycled. Thousands of lunch trash gets thrown out everyday and almost all of it cannot be recycled and ends up sitting on a garbage site for years, or is dumped into holes and covered up to rot. To help reduce the amount of trash, I will only be eating my lunches or dinners from Tupperware or reusable plates and containers; I will no longer be eating out, and will only be drinking water from reusable water bottles. I believe this is a good task for me to do as I eat out almost everyday because I work at a restaurant downtown that causes me to need to eat fast before I work, I always bring my sandwiches in saran wrap that I end up throwing away, and I always use plastic water bottles that I end up throwing away as well. By doing this, I will be cutting down my waste intake by at least 95%. It will be hard to do at first, especially when I'm on my way to work and I'm going to want to eat out but I'm just going to have to start packing myself lunches, which will help me cut down my waste intake but will also help me to start eating healthier. The only exeption I will have is if I eat out at work and have leftovers, I will be able to bring it back at home with me because I will be reusing the container and the food for the next day. Cutting back from plastic water bottles will allow me to spend money on a pretty reusable one that I can use everyday. This way I be doing the environment a favor, as well as myself by eating healthier and getting in shape that way as well. I'm sure there will be a lot of ups and down and that it will be hard for me to do at times, but it's for a good cause and I can't wait to start! The funny part about this whole experience is that tonight I am staying home alone, and I was just contemplating wanting to order chinese food or pizza before realizing that I can't because of this summative. This way I'll have to make myself a nice meal at home, and suprinsingly I'm not upset about that.
